Children of Taiping home facing closure to be sent to next of kin

IPOH (Nov 8): About 20 children of Rumah Kanak-Kanak Taiping will be sent back to their next of kin or placed in other welfare homes following the closure of the home tomorrow.

State Exco for social welfare and family development Wong May In said the Social Welfare Department (JKM) had ordered the home to be closed after it failed to meet certain requirements.

JKM had held several meetings with the management of the home in an attempt to resolve various issues faced by the centre, she said.

“JKM will monitor the situation closely in a 30-day period from the date of closure to determine further action,” she told reporters after the presentation of aid totalling RM250,000 to 82 state non-governmental organisations here today.

Last February, the home’s manager allegedly hit a boy at the centre he accused of sticking chewing gum on his car, and a recording of the incident went viral on social media.
