Keramat

Keramat

Keramat is a fairly large neighbourhood in Kuala Lumpur located within the Titiwangsa constituency, approximately 13 kilometres away from the Kuala Lumpur city centre and about an hours drive away from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Its official name is Kampung Datuk Keramat, however the locals still prefer to refer to this area by its old name Keramat. Its location is slightly out of the city. Bangsar is approximately 16 kilometres away, Mont Kiara at 17 kilometres and Petaling Jaya at 23.5 kilometres. Its neighbours are Jelatek, Setiawangsa and Ampang Hilir.

This area is mainly a residential area, albeit a very old one. Keramat is traditionally a Malay majority area, and the houses here are mostly handed down from parents to their children, and new development is scarce with high rises almost non existent. The three condominiums in the area are The Palladium, Gurney Heights and Lanai Gurney which are relatively new in comparison to the landed property. Despite their ages, the houses are very well kept and come in all shapes and sizes. The cheapest of the homes at the moment is RM300,000 for a double storey terrace house, while the more extravagant houses can cost more than RM3,300,000.

The closest medical centre to Keramat is the Institute Jantung Negara (IJN) and the General Hospital. The residents will enjoy a wide variety of shopping options from Suria KLCC, Avenue K and Pavilion to Ampang Point, Sungai Wang and Berjaya Times Square. Both international and local banks are easily available, as are national and international schools. The local wet market that serves the area is Pasar Dato Keramat.

Keramat is easily accessible as it shares many main highways with Ampang and Kuala Lumpur. The main roads are Jalan Semarak and Jalan Jelatek which connect to Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Ampang respectively. The Ampang – Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway provides residents a congestion free road to Ampang and the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2). The Damai Putra LRT and Keramat Putra LRT serve the area, thus, access via public transportation is fairly convenient as well.
